The triptych Steppe, initially perceived as a purely abstract work from 2021, takes on a profoundly different meaning today. Rather than depicting a specific landscape, Mykhailov seeks to capture the essence of the steppe—its physical presence, movement, and historical depth. The piece conveys both an ominous sense of an impending great war and the untamed forces of the steppe itself.

The upper section of the painting is dominated by warm, rust-brown hues, suggesting arid, barren land or even scorched steppe terrain.

In contrast, the lower part is infused with a deep green, evoking the vitality and raw power of nature.
