Elmira Shemsedinova's Art: Reinterpreting Classical Painting

In her art practice, Elmira Shemsedinova explores painting as a medium of visual communication, continuously reinventing classical traditions through contemporary techniques. Her art includes oil and watercolor paintings, as well as graphic works.

Distinguishably, Elmira developed a unique and original approach by using a technique that imitates watercolor painting with oil paints.

Her "Tense Horizon" is a series of stark, monochromatic seascapes painted from memory.

Her other series of works, "The Last Crimean Album", features sketches created during a symbolic trip to the peninsula in 2015. Upon returning to Kyiv, Elmira transformed her watercolor sketches into works on canvas. In this series, the artist explores traditional techniques in innovative ways. By manipulating formats and textures, she creates paintings that mimic the translucence of watercolor, with the canvas itself resembling a delicate sheet of paper.
