Lucy Ivanova is a Ukrainian artist. She primarily works with painting, as well as with sculptural objects, installations, video, photography, and textiles.

Lucy Ivanova’s art explores themes of the everyday and the fragile, shifts in lifestyle, changing perspectives on art, the impact of war, and intimacy—sometimes quite literally, incorporating elements like thermal imaging and themes of sleep—as well as the experience of motherhood.

She is inspired by and draws on personal experiences, transforming them over time as she engages with her chosen materials. 

Biography of Lucy Ivanova

The artist was born in Dnipro in 1989. She studied at Dnipro Art College under the mentorship of Hryhoriy Chernetа. Later, Ivanova graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv.

In 2019-2020, together with Yegor Antsygin, she co-curated the visual residency program at the ArtSvit Gallery. Lucy Ivanova’s paintings and personal projects have been presented across Ukraine in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, and Odesa.

Before the full-scale russian invasion, she lived and worked in Kyiv. She is now temporarily based in Vienna.

The artist’s works often explore the delicate balance between the mundane aspects of everyday life and the profound emotional impact of war. Her work often features figurative elements, recognizable plots, and objects that the artist places within the whirlpool of a vibrant, painterly world. 

Lucy Ivanova’s original paintings include “Girl with Camouflage Net” (2022), “Woman Is Weaving Camouflage Net” (2022), “Air Alert 1” (2022), “Women Weaving Camouflage Net” (2022), “Air Alert 2” (2022), among others.
