Amphitrite. "Protected" Series

Halyna Andrusenko is a Ukrainian artist whose practice spans various media, including painting, graphics, photography, video, and performative art. 

Andrusenko's paintings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the "Protected" project at Navas Gallery in Vienna in 2022. Currently, the artist resides in Kyiv.

The artist was born in 1992 in the Mykolaiv region, Ukraine. She graduated in 2018 from the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture, specializing in monumental painting. Between 2021 and 2022, she studied modern art through a course at the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts (KAMA).

Notably, Halyna Andrusenko's original paintings "Neptune" and "Amphitrite" from the "Protected" Series were featured in the 59th Venice Biennale Art Exhibition in 2022. 

Andrusenko's art includes a large body of work. Among them are "Rescue Me From Kindness" (2016),  "Still Life" (2021), "The Bun-Fight" (2020), and "The Foot" (2020). For creating these paintings, the artist used various materials, including burlap, watercolor, acrylic, pavoloka, levkas, oil, graphite, etc. Halyna Andrusenko's paintings for sale are available on the UFDA website and at numerous auctions worldwide.

In her work "Still Life", the artist reflects on painting, artistic genres, and the study of nature as a whole. Halyna transforms the artistic depiction of the nude body and invites us to view the figure not as a human being, but as an object, rejecting the attempt to connect them narratively. The artist composes a still life from "objects", emphasizing awkward, illogical, and absurd poses for the human body.

Her oeuvre is marked by a deep exploration of transformation and the impact of external forces on both art and society. In her "PROTECTED" Series, she portrays sculptures wrapped in protective material, symbolizing the vulnerability of cultural heritage amidst the threat of bombing in Ukraine. The protective wrapping serves not only as a means of preservation but also as a form of regeneration, making the sculptures appear as new, transformed art objects. This metamorphosis reflects the destructive force of war, yet it also hints at resilience and the potential for rebirth.
