Roman Mykhailov is a Ukrainian artist, graphic artist, and creator of installations, known for his innovative approaches and thought-provoking works. 

Roman Mykhailov is renowned for his innovative installations, graphic art, and abstract paintings that explore themes of destruction and transformation. He has earned recognition through accolades such as the Saatchi Gallery's UK/RAINE prize and Pinchuk Art Prize nominations. By using industrial materials to challenge artistic norms, he fosters cultural dialogue and elevates contemporary Ukrainian art to an international audience.

Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, in 1989, Mykhailov received a Master's degree at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Fine Arts, where he specialized in easel painting. Since 2010, he has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

Mykhailov's artistic career is marked by significant achievements and accolades. In 2015, he won the prize for the best installation at Saatchi Gallery, London, in the UK/RAINE competition for emerging artists from the UK and Ukraine. He was also nominated for the prestigious Pinchuk Art Prize in 2016 and 2018, underscoring his growing impact on the contemporary art scene.

Roman Mykhailov has exhibited his works widely in both solo and group exhibitions on national and international platforms. His solo showcases include Culture Week in Tbilisi (2022, 2024), as well as exhibitions at Gallery Forsa, Kyiv (2022) and Swap Gallery, Kyiv (2021). His participation in group exhibitions spans prestigious venues such as the Ukrainian Museum of Contemporary Art and Khanenko Museum in Kyiv (2023); One Point, Paris, and Catinca Tabacaru Gallery, Bucharest (2022); Nord Art, Büdelsdorf, and Non-Stop Media, Kharkiv (2021). Other notable contributions include Letisin, Paris, and Blue Monday at Municipal Gallery Lavra, Kyiv (2019), reflecting his consistent presence in the global scene.

In addition to these notable exhibitions, Mykhailov actively participates in art residencies and interdisciplinary projects. His work emphasizes the transformative power of art in fostering societal change and cultural dialogue. 

Currently living and working in Kyiv, Roman Mykhailov remains an influential figure in the Ukrainian contemporary art world and advocates for it to transcend traditional national symbols and resonate on the global stage.

His works span large-scale installations, graphics, and abstract paintings that explore themes such as destruction, transformation, and resilience. A notable project, "Burned Books", uses the act of burning as both a literal and symbolic process to reflect the fragility and reconstruction of cultural memory. 

In his abstract paintings, like "Untitled", "Grassland" or "Interpol", Mykhailov employs textured surfaces and dynamic contrasts between light and shadow, creating a sense of depth and existential reflection.
