Biography of Sofiia Holubeva

Born in 1997 in Odesa, the artist has pursued extensive artistic education. Since 2024, she has been pursuing Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts. Previously, she attended the National Academy of Fine Arts, earning a master’s degree in Monumental Arts in Kyiv in 2021, and completed a Contemporary Art course at KAMA in Kyiv in 2019. Her early artistic foundation was laid at the Grekov Odessa Art College, where she graduated in Painting in 2015.

Her works have been presented in exhibitions across European countries, including Ukraine, Spain, Romania, Poland, Germany, Monaco, and others. Her paintings have been featured in prominent publications, including Mitec, NWZ, MorgenPost, Tagesspiegel, Monopol, and TAZ, among others.

Her oeuvre encompasses paintings, drawings, installations, objects, videos, performances, and mosaics. Sofiia Holubeva’s original paintings include “Project "40х20х30” (2022), “Project "The Cloud" (2022), Series "Forms" (2022), “End of Anxiety” (2022), “Stone Block” (2022), and many more.

Her series “40x20x30” reflects the challenges of today's period of adjustment while also showcasing the resilience to find solutions. As mentioned by Points of Resistance, the works are composed of pieces measuring 40 x 30 cm—the size of hand luggage. This format symbolizes how the artist had to condense everything important, including her artwork, when leaving Ukraine.

The artist is interested in the concepts of home and connection and often involves her family in her projects. She examines the history of painting and its relevance in the contemporary context.
