Yevdokym Voloshynov was one of the most prominent masters of academic still life painting in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The artist was born in 1824 and studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts starting in 1846. He lived and worked in Kharkiv. An important chapter in his life was his work as a teacher, as he taught at the Kharkiv Institute for Noble Maidens and the Kharkiv Veterinary Institute starting in 1865.

Voloshynov made a substantial contribution to the development of the still life genre, which, especially during that period, was among the least popular among artists and art enthusiasts. Through his work, he demonstrated that still life paintings could be as worthy of attention as other genres. His exceptional skill allowed him to create refined artistic pieces that celebrated the beauty of native natural gifts, often overlooked in the flow of everyday life.

Voloshynov also worked in other genres. His artistic legacy comprises more than 400 works, including still lifes, interiors, and landscapes, though only a small portion has survived to this day. Nevertheless, he is regarded as one of the unrivaled masters of still life painting.
