Luka Basov was born in 1993 in Moldova and grew up in Odesa, Ukraine.

He studied at the Odesa College of Fine Arts (painting department) in 2010-2014. Then he continued his studies at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, where became Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting in 2019 and Master in Monumental Painting in 2021. He also completed the Contemporary Art Course at the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts in 2019.

His artistic practice encompasses painting, graphics and film photography. Basov is interested in the phenomena of violence, death and foreboding as big general themes that are reflected by many artists.

In painting, he explores corporeality in images and ways of its representation, interplay between painting and photography, often using photographic references as a starting point for his work.

Basov claims, that he is fascinated by images that have multiple layers of meaning and are not immediately comprehensible and have a certain depth. Or those that are not apparent at first glance and require time to be perceived.

Luka Basov has participated in various exhibitions held at Mystetskyi Arsenal (Kyiv), "Asortymentna Kimnata" (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine), JUMP Contemporary Art Gallery (Poltava, Ukraine), The Naked Room Gallery (Kyiv).

Currently the artist lives and works in Kyiv.
