As Sofiia Holubeva explained in a conversation with Art Space Kolo, she started the "Those Who Are Running" series in early 2020.
"Living in Kyiv, which is a big city, you often find yourself in a crowd where everyone is in a hurry. The work arose together with the desire to be conscious of choices, and not to adapt to others, to the crowd. This topic still worries me…", she said.
Since the onset of russia's military aggression against Ukraine, the project has taken on a profound new meaning. Sofiia Holubeva enlarges the idea in a completely different sense. A big part of Ukrainians is running. Ukrainians are running to the shelters when there is an air alarm, refugees are running out of Ukraine, volunteers are running to bring food, and soldiers are running to the front line.”
