Vasyl Nepyipyvo

Vasyl Nepyipyvo was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist, best known for his landscape works. His practice is associated with the tradition of realist painting and the depiction of natural and architectural environments.

Nepyipyvo worked across landscape, still life, and portraiture, though he is most closely associated with landscape painting. From the early 1950s onward, he regularly participated in regional, republican, and international exhibitions, and his works are now held in museum and private collections. His paintings are characterized by a careful treatment of color, light, and atmosphere.

Vasyl Hnatovych Nepyipyvo was born on January 10, 1916, in Kamianka, Poltava region. He died on January 19, 2007, in Kyiv. He was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist, awarded the title of People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1982.

He did not follow a conventional academic path, but studied at the Kharkiv Art Studio and with artists in Poltava. Early in his career, he worked as a theatre designer and later contributed to artistic life in postwar Kyiv.

He was a participant in World War II and received military awards. From 1950–51 onward, he regularly exhibited his works at republican, all-Union, and international exhibitions, and in 1960 became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine.

He held solo exhibitions in Kyiv and Poltava and spent most of his life working in Kyiv. His works are represented in various museum holdings throughout Ukraine, as well as within numerous private collections.

Nepyipyvo's works include numerous landscapes depicting rivers, fields, and coastal views. Paintings such as "Kerch Strait", "Vorskla River", and "May Meadows" focus on water, open space, and seasonal change.

In works like "Poltava", "Village in Poltava Region", and "Morning Fields", the artist turned to rural subjects, depicting everyday landscapes and local environments. The artist combines broad views and fine details within these compositions.

Architectural motifs also appear in his pieces, including St. Sophia Cathedral and Zagorsk Cathedral, where buildings are shown in relation to their surroundings.
