According to the artist, this project was born from his expeditions documenting the aftermath in towns across the Kyiv region following their liberation from occupation. Among the many damaged objects, he frequently encountered shattered crystal vases and glasses. Collecting these fragments—now artifacts and silent witnesses to the devastation—he sought to preserve their memory by reconstructing their original fragile forms, piecing them back together.

By reassembling these broken objects, the artist not only restores their physical shape but also metaphorically revives the stories and emotions embedded within them. Each reconstructed vase or glass becomes a testament to resilience, memory, and the irreversible impact of war on everyday life.

This series of drawings functions as both documentation and a visual catalog of destruction and trauma—personal and collective—capturing the fragility of existence in the face of devastation.

"After the full-scale invasion of Russian forces into Ukraine on February 24, 2022, I undertook several expeditions to destroyed homes in Kyiv, Bucha, Hostomel, Irpin, Borodyanka, and Chernihiv. During these trips, I often spoke with people whose homes had been affected, and I was deeply moved by how they were striving on their own to restore their living spaces.

In the context of my artistic practice, which is associated with the aesthetics of interaction and the reinterpretation of the Soviet past through objects, particularly crystal, I noticed shared features among these homes — shattered crystal and broken dishes. With the consent of the homeowners, I collected these fragments, which became artifacts, witnesses of these horrific events, and carriers of memory.

Initially, I attempt to restore the original form of these fragile, broken objects, piecing them back together. This process metaphorically mirrors how people try to clean up and rebuild their homes, yet it is impossible to return everything to its previous state — "scars" remain, just like the memories.

The shadows cast by the broken objects remind me of shrapnel fragments. Drawing is one way to document the irrevocably altered form — a form of comfort invaded by war."
