One of the key themes in Bolsa's artistic practice is the manifestation of the context of an industrial city in landscapes, interactions, and ways of existence. It's something akin to an ode to the industrial landscape, while simultaneously serving as a satirical reaction to such infrastructure, where industrial zones push out people and nature, forming and expanding into stone labyrinths, smoke screens, and an absence of comfortable interaction with space.
In his work "The Industrial Landscape," the artist depicts a typical post-Soviet city wall — made of concrete blocks with the same, familiar design found everywhere. It seems that the viewer cannot see the landscape behind the fence, but the fence itself takes on the role of the landscape, becoming its full-fledged foundation. The red sun — a recurring element in Bolsa's works — appears here as well. "The red suns in different paintings carry the same meaning. When I see a red sun, it looks terrifying, and in the painting, I use contrast to symbolize an even greater fear," the artist shares.
However, according to Bolsa, he paints fear to fear less — to somehow gain control over his fears by depicting them. It’s difficult to decisively say how pleasant or unpleasant "The Industrial Landscape" is for the artist himself, as, in the end, this work embodies the place where he developed both as a person and as an artist. Such reflections, upon viewing this piece, offer an opportunity to reconsider the question of the aesthetics of the surrounding environment and the impact it has on the creation of personal identity.

Yuriy Bolsa's Art Style
His artistic practice began with self-inflicted imprisonment in the apartment, which lasted for 6 years. So, the artist works with personal stories, dominated by loneliness, self-destruction, and research of the surrounding society through the prism of alienation.
After moving to Kyiv, the artist began to work more with socio-political problems that resonated with his injuries. The main direction is the theme of destruction and changes that lead to the emergence of something new. His works also include a big project about his hometown, Sheptytskyi. The main concept is glorifying this place, and at the same time, it serves as a series of self-portraits.
